The Kingston Toy Library Incorporated was established in 1987 by an enthusiastic group of parents who believed in the viability and ethos of a toy library in the local community. The toy library continues to be run by a voluntary committee of parents.

Our mission statement

Our Vision of the future is

That all pre-school aged children have ample toys to thrive, learn and grow.

Our Mission

We will do this by:

  • Providing a safe, high quality range of educational toys for children aged 0 to 7;
  • Maintaining a service that is affordable to all sections of the community;
  • Providing a consistent, high quality level of service; and
  • Integrating and collaborating with other services and community groups in the Kingston community to reach more families.

Ownership, management and funding

We are a not-for-profit incorporated organisation owned by our members. Members are the lifeblood of our organisation.

We have one paid, part-time coordinator, Catherine, who is available during toy library opening hours to help you select toys for your children, organise your duty hours and answer any membership queries.

The committee

Members elect a committee every year to manage the toy library’s resources, set policy and provide strategic oversight for the future. Committee members work on a voluntary basis and generously contribute more than their required hours of roster duty.

There are benefits to joining the committee. To learn more view the Committee page.

Membership subscriptions provide the bulk of our income. To keep our subscription low, members also volunteer six hours per year to work in the toy library. Members pay a duty levy of $90 ($45 concession) when first joining which is refunded provided that all duty hours are completed.

We rely on grants, fundraising and donations to replace toys and keep the toy library well stocked. We also hire party packs to members.
